What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-shaped pieces of porcelain that cover up the fronts of your teeth. They are meant to treat cosmetic dental imperfections such as tooth stains, gaps between the teeth, and misshapen teeth. Thanks to their durable porcelain design, veneers look and feel completely natural, and are typically the longest-lasting cosmetic dentistry treatment at One Dental New Jersey. Contact your dentist to schedule an appointment and see if dental veneers in Edison are right for you.

How It Works: The Veneers Placement Process

Tooth preparation

At your first appointment, Dr. Shefat Rabbi will clean your teeth and numb your mouth. Then, he will remove a thin layer of enamel from each tooth that needs a dental veneer. This makes room for the veneers in your mouth, and ensures they attach properly to your teeth.

Fitting & creating your veneers

Once your teeth have been trimmed, Dr. Shefat Rabbi will take impressions and images of the teeth and send this information to a dental lab. A set of beautiful, natural dental veneers will be built that will fit perfectly into your mouth.

Temporary veneers

Since it will take a few weeks for your permanent dental veneers to be made, Dr. Shefat Rabbi will place a set of temporary resin veneers to protect your teeth, then you’ll be sent home.

Final veneer placement

You will come back in a few weeks to get your final set of dental veneers at One Dental New Jersey. At this appointment, Dr. Shefat Rabbi will remove your temporaries, clean your teeth, then check the fit of your porcelain veneers. If everything looks good, he will attach them to your teeth permanently.

The Benefits of Veneers

There are several benefits of veneers, starting with the fact that they are custom-made to look and feel just like your natural teeth. Since they are stain-resistant, they also don’t require any special oral hygiene tools to keep them looking bright and beautiful – just brush and floss like normal.

It’s also important to mention that you’ll be able to eat, speak, smile, and laugh without feeling self-conscious or embarrassed. With veneers, you can take pride in your appearance!

Understanding the Cost of Veneers

Even if you’re excited about the prospect of a brand-new smile, it’s understandable to be intimidated by the cost of this treatment. It’s true that veneers rarely fall under the purview of what dental insurance will cover, and even among other cosmetic dental treatments, they’re on the pricier side.

However, it’s also the case that you can get the smile you’re looking for without breaking the bank. Here are a few things to keep in mind that will help you budget for cosmetic care.

Cost VS Cosmetic Dentistry: What’s Right for Me?

Of course, while veneers are certainly one of the most effective and comprehensive cosmetic treatments, they’re far from the only game in town. There are other cosmetic treatments that are more affordable and may fit your needs perfectly.

For one, if you’re just looking to repair a small crack or chip, you might appreciate dental bonding. If you’re just trying to lift stains, you may also be interested in trying teeth whitening. Both of these treatments are on the inexpensive side of cosmetic dentistry and cost considerably less than veneers.

There’s also Invisalign, which is hard to beat when it comes to straightening crooked teeth. While cost varies depending on how many aligners you’ll need, they’re usually cheaper than a mouth full of veneers.

However, veneers can do all of these things—straighten, whiten, and repair the teeth—with just one treatment. Moreover, unlike Invisalign, they can be completed within just two or three appointments. That being the case, it’s easy to see why they cost what they do.

How to Make Veneers Affordable

As we mentioned previously, veneers are rarely (if ever) covered by insurance. For many patients, that means getting creative in finding ways to make the treatment affordable.

At One Dental New Jersey we offer in-house, fee-for-service financing options. That means that you don’t need to deal with a third-party financing firm in order to get the care that you need—just give us a call and we’ll find a way to help you budget for the care that you deserve!

If you have some questions that you’d like answered before committing to veneers, good news: we’re here to help! In addition to reaching out to our Edison dental team directly, you can continue your online research right here since we’ve dedicated this next section to FAQs.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

Veneers usually last between 10-20 years, depending on your oral health, the location of your veneers, how well you care for your smile, and a few other factors.

What Cosmetic Imperfections Can Veneers Fix?

Veneers can be used to treat almost any cosmetic problem with your teeth. This includes stained and discolored teeth, uneven teeth, misshapen teeth, gaps between the teeth, and much more.

In addition, veneers are sometimes used to treat minor chips in the teeth, though they are not usually the right choice for severe cracks or tooth damage. A dental crown is more suitable for severely damaged teeth.

Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee with Veneers?

Yes, you will. After all, veneers are stain-resistant! Of course, it’s still a good idea to use a straw, especially since your natural teeth can discolor. For that same reason, we also recommend keeping additives, like sugar, to a minimum.

Note: To reduce your risk of enamel erosion, you should thoroughly rinse your mouth with clean water after enjoying this caffeinated beverage. About 20 minutes later, brush your teeth to remove the lingering residue.

How Many Veneers Will I Need?

Great question! At your consultation, we will sit down with you to learn all about your dental needs and aesthetic goals, including what you’d like to change about your existing smile. From there, we can provide you with a recommendation. For example, if you’re really unhappy with one misshapen tooth, then you may only need one veneer. If, on the other hand, you want to address stains, chips, and gaps throughout your smile, then 10-12 may be more ideal.

How Can I Make My Veneers Last?

To enjoy your beautiful smile for as long as possible, we recommend being proactive about taking care of your veneers and your teeth. That includes committing to a solid oral hygiene routine at home, visiting us for a checkup and cleaning twice a year, and quitting unhealthy dental habits, like biting your nails, chewing on ice cubes, and smoking.
